Perspective

So I tried something today with my Kindergartners and 1st Graders. I talk about perspective and how we use lines to achieve a the visual technique. I drew and explain a scene and then let them do it on their own.  Majority of the students understood and were able to complete the assignment with out doing it along with me. They did it by themselves. I was so impressed and so were their teachers. Amazing job!

Scratch art

This week my second graders are being their scratch art projects. I like to first give them a little practice before we get into the big project. I give them a few little projects leading up to the big one.

Trick or Arting!

Saturday was a wonderful day for arts and crafts for our wonderful students. FSU museum hosted a trick or Arting( I like the way that sounds) event for all elementary schools in the area.  I had one student to come and I was so excited. It was for two hours and all of the students came in their costumes. So cute!

This is the exhibit that is up in the gallery for this month and next month. Amazing Work! Looks like a project might be coming from this work. UMmmmmmm.

This is my student. Too cute!! He had so much fun and his grandmother was just so supportive and she had a great time also.
Some teachers brought some work, but I forgot my work, so sad. I really like this one because it's looks like what we are doing right now.

Learning how to give a critique.

So I have been on other Art Teacher Blogs and Websites trying to find a way to introduce the students to giving Critiques. So with a lot of research and God. I created a sheet that would work for our class. The students did a very good job and followed directions very well. They were also very honest.

So we answer the questions and you name and the person's paper that you critique. then when we are done we give it to the person so that they can look it over and take in some peer review. They are always hearing me talk about the work so now it's good to hear what your classmates think.

The questions are simple( I got some of them off of Pinterst) Name something you liked about their work.

Make a suggestion about their work that could make it better.

Name something else you liked about their work.

I think this is a good start for them learning how to look at work and analyze it. Now all I have to do is teach them the vocabulary and the language and we will be cooking with grease.

Oh Zentangled

I just love zentangled!  For me it's a great way to introduce "LINE", since we will be focusing on this element this nine weeks. Also it's quick gradification for the students, and lastly It's something I know they will practice at home.

2nd Nine Weeks

Oh we are in going into the second week of the of the second nine weeks and we are moving in class.
Some new things on my part. I have to enter daily grades for each of my classes. It is not that big of a task as I thought it's just remembering to do it by the end of the day. I like though, It gives the students and opportunity to have more grades since I don't see them very often.

Well during the first week we have being doing zentangled designs in every grade level. This is the way I introduce the element of design Line. After this I get in to Op art with my 3rd graders, Scratch Art with my 2nd graders, Perspective with my 4th and 5th graders.

I dictated on the board and when I finished I gave them another sheet of paper and had them create the designs again by themselves and with out my help. They either had to look at the example they just drew or ask some one at their table for help. Little do they know that little practice sheet is one of their study guides for their test.

With my younger students we did a perspective scene and a zentangled design. I was so impressed with how they followed directions I have changed some of their projects.

An Owl Collaboration

One of my favorite things to do is collaborate. I get to do my part of an idea that was already bigger then what I was doing by myself. I talk about how we worked together on an owl project. Click here to see that post. Well it was a rainy Tuesday but an excellent one. The Owls came to visit Sabal Palm and all the Kindergarteners were in attendance. Check out Out of this world kindergartners to see the show.
Here is the display. Of course the kindergarten team put them up, but we had a week long construction of these owls in class.

The treat to my day, lovely goodies from the kindergarten team. I didn't even expect it! I really appreciated it!  I have a card too but I put it up in the room.
