Kindergarten : 1st NINE Weeks Wrap up

The kindergartners are no longer newbes and have finished a tone of projects for this nine weeks.
In the primary grades I am trying to make it a point to read them at least 2-3 stories every nine weeks.

We listen to the story the rainbow fish and talked about sharing

We also talked about Kandinsky and produced our own version of Circles.

We drew angle fish and colored them, I also added glitter to the fins. The students really enjoyed that part. We also just followed along with the video to artforkidshub.com
I let them listen to the grouchy lady bug and we created our own grouchy lady bug.

Mouse Paint

I do enjoy the story Mouse Paint. It really does a great job explaining primary and secondary colors to my Kindergartners and 1st graders. The also enjoy the story. We are doing a mouse paint project. I use artforkidshub website to help the students draw some pretty good mice for their projects. The kindergartners colored the mice Primary colors and the first graders colored their mince secondary colors and did a crayon resist. I only gave them primary colors and they had to mix them to make the secondary colors.

Hand Prints for Kindergarten

So while we are doing the mouse paint project we are also simultaneously  doing a hand print color wheel to see how we can make secondary colors. I love doing this project with my kindergartners. They are so excited to get their hands in paint and when they rub their hands together and make new colors they just lose it. They are amazed that they made green purple and orange. I usually do this project for three weeks. It helps with the mess and I can allow the whole class to get a chance and not have a big mess in my room.

Kindergarten last projects

We were using recycled materials in the last nine weeks in most of our projects. This was apart of their butter fly project with the paper towel roll. Some of the work for the wings were amazing so I just had to photograph some before they took them away.
In their books in class they were talking about windy days so we decided to make balloons out of newspaper and scrap yarn. This was a fun project and I can see how much they have matured.

If you want to see the gallery of their projects for the fourth nine weeks click the link to see our gallery. Look for Kites and Sailboats Artsoina

Goodbye Butterflies

So the kindergarteners finished their recycled butterflies First I let them paint ( Whoohooo they love to paint) a paper towel roll and draw on a piece of construction paper. The next class period I hot glued the two together and put holes in the roll so they could add the feelers with pipe cleaners. Since this the end of the year they take anything they make home that day. They were so excited to take these home. Good bye butterflies. I hope their parents enjoy their project

Project OverLoad 1st Grade- Kindergarten

So the 1st graders and Kindergarten class have been heavy into Chinese culture. I have to say I had a great time with these projects and I learned a lot about Chinese culture also. I had to do research to make sure I was teaching the correct information. I am super impressed with the work my students have turn in this nine weeks. I think I did a better job teaching it then last year.

We made the Chinese scrolls again in 1st grade. This time we used watercolor paper. I like it so much better.

In first grade we also made the cherry blossoms. This project is quick and my students love blowing the paint through the straws.

The Kindergartners are learning about Chinese Dragons and symbols.
