Color Theory

We are now going into our third week of school. It's been going pretty well. Going into my 4th year of teaching I am noticing how much quicker they are in producing work. It use to take them forever to finish something that should only take 15 mins to do. I am really impress so far.
We are focused on the element of design, "COLOR". It is my favorite element to start with, for me it is easier to incorporate other elements and principals. The student love this unit and they get a chance to do a lot of painting.
The very first thing I start off with is my slide show on color. This year was great I didn't have to start with the first 4 slides because most of the students knew all the information. Awesome! Then I show my two favorite videos on color. I love show these color videos because the kids get so excited and they actually start remembering what the colors are just from the songs.

Everyone completes a color wheel. We often go back to them as a reference in my upper grades.  For my 3rd, 4th and 5th graders they make a study guide and a reference sheet. I test them on the color wheel each year. My 5th graders should make all A's with the exception of our new students they have seen this test at least twice.

Last week of school

So I found this awesome draw along video on you tube. The website is Artforkidshub.com. It has amazing drawing for children of all ages to do and the guy that does the videos has his children draw along with him, so I like the fact that children are on this video also. I did this video with all grade levels. We drew minions! I think they did a great job.

3D illusions:5th grade

For the last nine weeks of this year I have decided to show the 5th graders a little op art for their last project with me as elementary schools students. We started out using the hexagon shape and then used shading to make it look like an illusion. They love this project. We are going to add to this project next week

Project Over load- 5th Grade

The 5th graders were studying the Mayans civilization. So I decided that we were going to do some print making. They enjoyed this project. It was also quick and quite simple

5th grade perspective drawings

So my 5th graders have been working on their perspective drawings for what seems like forever. It's not totally on them, it's a little of me also. I decided to let them practice a little longer then I have in the past. I am glad I did this, because I can see how the long some of them work on their work the better they have been getting. We are starting to get to the painting part of the project so I think most of them will be painting next week.

 Yes we practiced a lot

Oh Zentangled

I just love zentangled!  For me it's a great way to introduce "LINE", since we will be focusing on this element this nine weeks. Also it's quick gradification for the students, and lastly It's something I know they will practice at home.

2nd Nine Weeks

Oh we are in going into the second week of the of the second nine weeks and we are moving in class.
Some new things on my part. I have to enter daily grades for each of my classes. It is not that big of a task as I thought it's just remembering to do it by the end of the day. I like though, It gives the students and opportunity to have more grades since I don't see them very often.

Well during the first week we have being doing zentangled designs in every grade level. This is the way I introduce the element of design Line. After this I get in to Op art with my 3rd graders, Scratch Art with my 2nd graders, Perspective with my 4th and 5th graders.

I dictated on the board and when I finished I gave them another sheet of paper and had them create the designs again by themselves and with out my help. They either had to look at the example they just drew or ask some one at their table for help. Little do they know that little practice sheet is one of their study guides for their test.

With my younger students we did a perspective scene and a zentangled design. I was so impressed with how they followed directions I have changed some of their projects.
